Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) and Motional have announced the launch of their public robo taxi service in Las Vegas, NV. For the first time ever, Uber customers are able to hail an autonomous ride using Motional's all-electric robotaxis.
This is the first service in the two company’s 10-year partnership that will leverage Motional’s Level 4 autonomous vehicles for ride hailing and meal deliveries on the Uber network across the United States. The robo taxi service will be rolled out in Las Vegas with plans to expand into Los Angeles, California in the future.
Motional says that the launch represents the first autonomous vehicle company to offer both ride hailing and delivery services on a major network.Combining Motional’s autonomous vehicle expertise, with the world renowned Uber network, enables consumers to experience affordable autonomous rides in a safe and convenient way.
