Plug Power (NASDAQ: PLUG) has recently announced the historic flight of a regional airliner powered by its line of ProGen fuel cells. Led by Universal Hydrogen, the hydrogen fuel cell-powered flying testbed took off at Grant County International Airport in Washington state, marking a significant milestone for both companies.
The 40-passenger airplane's reached an altitude of 3,500 feet during the 15-minute flight. The partnership between Plug Power and Universal Hydrogen is expected to revolutionize the aviation industry, as the two companies work towards converting a 56-passenger ATR 72 regional aircraft to run on hydrogen.
The success of this flight and the anticipated entry into passenger service in 2025 is a significant milestone for the global green hydrogen economy.
