Plug Power ($PLUG) Announces Historic Flight of Airliner Powered by Hydrogen ProGen Fuel Cells

Plug Power (NASDAQ: PLUG) has recently announced the historic flight of a regional airliner powered by its line of ProGen fuel cells. Led by Universal Hydrogen, the hydrogen fuel cell-powered flying testbed took off at Grant County International Airport in Washington state, marking a significant milestone for both companies.

The 40-passenger airplane's reached an altitude of 3,500 feet during the 15-minute flight. The partnership between Plug Power and Universal Hydrogen is expected to revolutionize the aviation industry, as the two companies work towards converting a 56-passenger ATR 72 regional aircraft to run on hydrogen.

The success of this flight and the anticipated entry into passenger service in 2025 is a significant milestone for the global green hydrogen economy.

Plug Power CEO Andy Marsh stated: “We’ve long said hydrogen can power applications, such as planes, while reducing toxic carbon emissions. Today, we proved it, and we’re one step closer to a more sustainable future.”

Plug Power is building an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem, from production, storage and delivery to energy generation, to help its customers meet their business goals and decarbonize the economy.

Shares of Plug Power trade on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol PLUG.
