Plug Power (NASDAQ: PLUG), a leading provider of green hydrogen solutions, and Energy Vault (NYSE: NRGV) are teaming up to deliver clean energy to Calistoga, California, during emergencies.
Plug Power will supply 8 MW of hydrogen fuel cell power, making it the largest planned hydrogen fuel cell installation in the United States. The collaboration aims to replace traditional backup power solutions with cleaner and more flexible technology.
The energy storage system, operated by Energy Vault, will integrate fuel cells and green liquid hydrogen to provide reliable and carbon-free energy. Construction will begin in late 2023, with commercial operation expected by mid-2024.
Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug Power stated: “Our agreement with Energy Vault marks a huge step forward for hydrogen fuel cells in the microgrid market and represents the future of utility power back-up. Green hydrogen is uniquely positioned to solve the need for clean long-duration energy storage in at-risk communities like Calistoga that are susceptible to power interruptions.”
Plug Power is building an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem, from production, storage and delivery to energy generation. The company has deployed more than 60,000 fuel cell systems and over 185 fueling stations, more than anyone else in the world.
Shares of Plug Power trade on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol PLUG.
