Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), a global provider of electric vehicles, has announced a significant lithium supply contract with EnergySource Minerals.
Under the contract, EnergySource Minerals will supply Ford with lithium hydroxide produced at ESM's Project ATLiS, located in Imperial Valley California. Project ATLiS is expected to be operational in 2025, and uses only a fraction of the carbon and water than any other operation in the world.
ESM's Project ATLiS incorporates the patented ILiAD platform, a groundbreaking technology that enables efficient extraction of lithium from lithium-bearing brine resources, including the geothermal brine in the Salton Sea Geothermal Resource Area. By leveraging an operational geothermal power facility, ATLiS effectively removes lithium from the brine post-power generation, resulting in significant reductions in water usage, elimination of reagent consumption, extended operating life, and higher lithium recovery rates compared to existing methods.
This partnership enables Ford to access a domestic supply of lithium while supporting their commitment to sustainable electric vehicle (EV) production.
Lisa Drake, Ford's vice president of EV Industrialization stated: “The work we are doing with ESM is key to growing our access to minerals such as lithium, which is essential to Ford's EV growth."
Ford offers innovative technology, sustainable design, and performance, and gives consumers a compelling and eco-friendly driving experience.
