Luminar Technologies (NASDAQ: LAZR) has joined Volvo Cars to unveil the new, all-electric Volvo EX90. This new electric vehicle will come standard with Luminar’s advanced LIDAR technology to enable advanced safety and autonomous driving capabilities.
Luminar CEO Austin Russell says that for the first time ever, a global production vehicle will come equipped with high-performance LIDAR and advanced software solutions, which will enable next-generation safety and set a new bar for the automotive industry. The company’s Iris LIDAR technology will be seamlessly integrated into the roofline of the EX90 to optimize for safety and performance.
Luminar says that its strategy is to introduce life saving technology to as many consumers as possible- first by focusing on advanced safety and second by unlocking autonomy with production vehicle programs.
Luminar has built an advanced hardware and software platform to enable its more than 50 industry partners, including the majority of global automotive OEMs. The company is aiming to become the first automotive technology player to enable next-generation safety and autonomous capabilities for production vehicles.
